It’s The Rudd Gnomelympics!

Our nationally famous Ruddington Yarn Bombers have gone ‘international’ for their latest topical tribute – paying homage to the 2024 Summer Olympics in France!

Installed right on time for today’s grand opening ceremony of The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris – providing the TV spectacle of thousands of real life Olympians sailing along the Seine (and the rest!) – the Yarn Ninjas’ latest display is to be found to the front of St Peter’s Rooms on Church Street.

Katie Goy says: “Thank you to ‘Team Rudd Yarn Ninjas’ for all the knitting, crocheting, assembling, delivering and installing. Thanks also to David Baxter for making the stands that support the Gnomelympians. There were lots of helpers for the installation – and thanks to Jake of J Foster Electrical for help with safely transporting parts of the display in the absence of Emma’s yarn mobile!  The Yarn Ninjas hope that you enjoy the display.”

Katie has kindly allowed RUDDINGTON.info to create this ‘slideshow’ using her latest photos:

Not only that, Rudd Yarn Ninjas have also launched ‘The Rudd Gnomelympics Trail’ – which runs from today, 26th July until 8th September 2024.  You can pick up a free trail sheet from The Bottle Top , Framework Knitters Museum, Parker’s Yard or Thomas James Estate Agents – then collect either a sweet or a badge (depending on availability) once you have completed it.

You can also enter their FREE prize draw to win your own knitted or crocheted gnome. All you need to do is share a picture of yourself with one of the gnomes (or part of the display) on their Ruddington Yarn Bomb Facebook page, OR tag @ruddingtonyarnbomb on Instagram.

‘The Rudd Gnomelympics’ is just latest display from this talented group of Ruddington creatives who’ve been periodically ‘Yarn Bombing’ our village with their colourful works since December 2021 – disappointed yet undaunted by occasional, mindless vandalism of their pieces along the way.
