Recruiting Ruddington Runners!

Do you enjoy running and socialising?  If so, a new, free-to-join group of like-minded Ruddingtonians would love to see you.

Ruddington Running Club was started by 29-year-old villager Jack Simkins in 2023 but has only been active since the start of this year. Members currently run together twice a week; with one session in the morning and the other in the evening.

Jack, who moved to Ruddington just eighteen months’ ago, reveals: “In 2022, while solo training for a half-marathon, I had this idea – why not turn the pavement pounding into a social event? And voila, the ‘Ruddington Running Club’ was born! I firmly believe that the key to building a solid running foundation is sharing the miles with others. That’s why our club isn’t just about setting personal bests (though we’ll get there too!) but it’s also about building friendships and enjoying the journey together.”

In fact, Jack is a double national champion with Beeston Hockey Club, and so has already tasted the thrill of high-level sports during his university days. He admits: “Running wasn’t always my jam but, hey, it’s growing on me – and I’m on a mission to connect with other like-minded folks who find joy in every stride. It’s not just about hitting the pavement; it’s about the chatter and a shared passion for staying active. So, whether you’re a seasoned runner or just dipping your toes into the running world, come be a part of Ruddington Running Club – where every pace is celebrated, and the journey is just as important as the finish line.”

The weekly runs take place each Friday from 7am and every Monday from 6pm, starting at the lower Asher Lane entrance to Rushcliffe Country Park {pictured below} and lasting between 30 and 35 minutes. All you need to do is arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled start time to warm up before the run begins and to say ‘hello’. However, you’re also invited to join their dedicated Facebook group >>HERE<<.

Jack adds: “Join us in creating a supportive and encouraging space where all levels of runners are welcome. Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or just taking your first steps in the sport, I look forward to seeing you down at one of the future sessions.”
