Village Crime Hiatus is Over

You may be pleased to hear that, just prior to the new ‘lockdown’, Ruddington enjoyed one of its ‘quietest’ months in recent history when it comes to recorded crime.

After 23 incidents were reported to Rushcliffe Police during September, during all of October only 6 crimes in our village came to the attention of its officers – a drop of 74%.

None of these offences was anything too major, either, as can be seen below, although another unwelcome incidence of vehicle damage on Cumberland Close was among them:-

4th Oct           Damage caused to the wing mirror of a vehicle parked on Cumberland Close by unknown suspect.

7-14th Oct     A van parked on Pasture Lane was stolen by unknown means and subsequently recovered out of the Force area.

21st Oct         Unknown female entered Sainsburys and stole items. On the same date a second offender entered the store and stole confectionary and trading cards.

21st Oct         Unknown offender forced entry to a vehicle parked on Packman Drive and stole items.

25th Oct        Unknown suspect caused damage to a fence panel on Spencer Close by breaking it off.

If you have information about any of the above offences reported during October in Ruddington, or may have captured CCTV footage that could help – you’re asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101. Or you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

More vehicle damage on Cumberland Close was reported

However, Ruddington beat officer PC Kelly Carlile now reports that “…all good things come to an end. It seems the low number was just one of those things!”  Over this weekend, unfortunately there has been another spate of crime in Ruddington.

During the early hours of Saturday morning a large number of motor vehicles were broken into and searched, although it is unclear at the moment what, if anything, was stolen. The offences appear to have occurred around 0200hrs and were in the area of Churchill Drive and Camelot Street estates, including Westerham Road and Woodhouse Gardens.

PC Carlile says: “All residents in this and the surrounding areas are requested to check any CCTV recordings they may have and, if you discover any relevant footage, please contact Nottinghamshire Police by phoning 101 and quoting reference 370 of the 7th November.”

Villagers are reminded to lock their vehicles and never leave anything on display inside. Even items of no value may lead to your vehicle being targeted.

On a happier note, you may be interested that Ruddington now has a new beat officer joining PC Carlile – PCSO 8133 Sherrylee Sampson will now also be on patrol around our village. It’s hoped neither will have too much too do with regards to enforcing the new national ‘lockdown’ restrictions in place between now and December 2nd. However, Nottinghamshire Police warns its officers will always take action, if necessary.

Inspector Chris Pearson says: “We don’t like stopping people having fun and the last thing officers would want to be doing is breaking up a family gathering but the rules are in place to protect our communities. While some may not agree with the current legislation, the majority abide by it and have had to make sacrifices to do so. We all have a level of personal responsibility in stopping the rise in Coronavirus cases. Most people understand the gravity of the situation and that we all have our part to play to avoid the spread of this deadly virus but a minority of the public have still chosen to put others at risk through their behaviour.”

With officers issuing dozens of fines across the county over the weekend, to those blatantly flouting the stricter Coronavirus safety rules, the Inspector adds: “We are continuing with our approach to engage, explain and encourage people to follow the new regulations before using enforcement as a final tactic. I want to reassure people that those who continue to put others at risk will be challenged and we will take positive enforcement action against those who knowingly and deliberately disregard the rules.”

Nottinghamshire Police are reiterating the Government’s #Hands #Face #Space message with their current COVID-19 poster (below).
