New Double Yellow Lines for Business Park

Parking will be prohibited along at least one side of the road right around Ruddington’s Business Park if plans by Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) get the go-ahead.

Extensive, new Double Yellow Lines for Mere Way (main photo) and The Avenue are being proposed after numerous requests to NCC to address issues with obstructive parking there. The Council says ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restrictions should improve access along the route – especially for larger vehicles including NCT’s Green 10C/10X buses. Additionally, it is proposing further Double Yellow Lines along parts of Camelot Street to ease traffic congestion there.

Ruddington Fields Business Park employs thousands of people – most of whom get there by car. With many of the firms’ car parks already full during the working day, questions are being asked about exactly where everyone will park – especially given the extent of the planned restrictions (below).Visitors to Rushcliffe Country Park also often resort to roadside parking when the car park there has no spaces left. Jane Glover comments: “So just where should everyone park? The car park at the Country Park is often full when I go – and when there’s football at Jubilee Fields and the Parkrun on a Saturday it would be chaos. Just another money making ploy!!!”  Suzanne Gardner adds: “This is ridiculous… the Asher Lane entrance will just become even worse than already is and this will impact people trying to drive around the village.”

At least employees of the Business Park payroll giant MHR will soon benefit from a new multi-storey car park which has just been granted planning permission on their site. This will provide room for 209 staff cars – that’s 143 more spaces than there are now.

Meantime, at the northern end of our village, the planned Camelot Street parking restrictions (below) are aimed at assisting the increased traffic flow associated with new housing at the Woodhouse Gardens, Silk Gardens and Lace Gardens developments – and include double yellow lines also at the entrances to Samson Court, Shelton Gardens and Templeman Close.

Resident Felicity Taylor welcomes these proposals, saying: “I am really pleased with the Camelot Street ones. I live in Camelot Crescent and cars parked either side of the turning into the Crescent, make it near impossible to emerge out of the Crescent – and tricky to get in too – as there is no visual of the road. We need that part clear so I can’t wait for people to not be allowed to park there!”
