Two firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the property and used a hose reel to extinguish the blaze, which was on the ground floor.
Thick smoke could be seen billowing from the flat (top photo) at the height of the fire. Nottinghamshire Police closed Leys Road to traffic during the incident.
An eyewitness told RUDDINGTON.info the female occupant managed to get out quickly and was shaken but unhurt. After being treated at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation, she was taken to the QMC as a precaution, but has since been discharged.
Investigations are now underway to identify the cause, but it was possibly an unattended candle. The damage to the building is not thought to be too serious.
