Acts of Christmas Kindness in Ruddington

For the second year running, householders in our village have reported envelopes stuffed with cash being pushed through their letterboxes over Christmas!

Once again, the envelopes filled with £20 notes have been delivered anonymously – marked only with the words “R. A. K. Random Act of Kindness”.

Among the recipients were Dee & Lol of Ashworth Avenue. Dee got in touch with RUDDINGTON.info to say: “I would like to say a big thank you to the anonymous donor who posted an envelope containing £100 through my letterbox. I am not working currently due to illness so this will be a massive help. It has made me cry to think that there are such generous people, especially at this special time of the year. Thank you so much!”

We were also contacted by Andrew Kinton who had this message for the mystery benefactor: “Thank you so much for your generosity! It was a shock to come home from work to this. It made my wife cry!”

Maria Watson of Clifton Donation Group has revealed to us that the amount of money given out this year ran into thousands of pounds! Although not able to reveal the identity of the donor or donors, she told us: “The person/s gifting these envelopes just wanted to make Christmas a little extra special for residents of Ruddington, Clifton and Silverdale. 36 envelopes were posted through the doors of Clifton, 10 in Ruddington and 10 in Silverdale. Some contained an amount of £100 and others a little more” explained Maria. “Thought had been put into some of the envelopes that were posted – not just because a family was struggling financially but because they have helped their community in some way on an ongoing basis. Not all who received these Act Of Kindness envelopes had a reason to receive one. They were random – and why not? What this person/s have done it to put love and faith back into these three communities at Christmas time. They wish to remain anonymous – but what they have done is truly amazing.”

Whether there is any connection with, or inspiration from, the American based ‘Random Acts of Kindness Foundation’ is not clear. This is an organisation which encourages us to become ‘RAKtivisits’ – “Individuals who believe kindness can change the world, who remind everyone around them how much love there is in the world and who inspire hope and generosity with their actions as much as their words.”

If you are another grateful Ruddington recipient of one of these Christmas envelopes – or you know of someone in the village who was, and would like to tell us – we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us >>HERE<<. We can publish a ‘thank you’ message anonymously, if you or they prefer.
