Bus Bottleneck Banished?

Plans to eliminate peak-time problems on roads outside a Ruddington school have been revealed by highway planners. Nottinghamshire County Council is proposing to put new double yellow lines at the junction of Ashworth Avenue and Packman Drive and to introduce “bus stop clearways” at the adjacent stops. It’s to prevent drivers parking, waiting or picking up and dropping off passengers there, and follows complaints from Nottingham City Transport, which runs its Green 10 service through the estate. Goodbye “Mrs Hawthorn”

The funeral of a popular teacher who taught hundreds of Ruddington schoolchildren during her 22 year career is taking place this Friday. Heather Hawthorn (pictured above with husband Don) taught at St Peter’s School from 1970 until her retirement in 1992. Sadly she lost her battle with pancreatic cancer last month when it infected her liver. She was 81. Mrs Hawthorn was well known for playing many musical instruments – teaching both children and adults the guitar – and she coached the school football team to win the league. Out of…

Life Saving Tool for Ruddington School

A village school has raised funds to install a defibrillator to save lives in its local community. It was presented to St Peter’s Junior School on Ashworth Avenue this week. Pupils and staff there wanted to ensure visitors and all users of the school had access to a defibrillator – as the nearest one is some distance away and the school is a busy community hub.
