Ruddington Library is reverting to its pre-pandemic opening times from today (5th October). Since March last year our library has been completely closed during three COVID-19 ‘lockdowns’ and then reduced to opening just two half days a week ever since. It’s been confirmed that the doors to Ruddington Library will remain shut for an indefinite period during this third, national COVID-19 ‘lockdown’. A statement by Inspire Culture – which runs the service on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council – says it’s “committed to the wellbeing of staff and customers during the current Coronavirus pandemic.” The library had already been operating to very restricted hours since reopening after the first ‘lockdown’ and was also closed during the second ‘lockdown’ in November last year. In line with the UK Government’s new national COVID-19 rules, it’s been confirmed Ruddington Library will not be opening during the new ‘lockdown’. As it stands, this means its doors will remain closed to villagers this Friday (November 6th), and on future Tuesdays and Fridays when it should have been open, through until Tuesday December 1st. After almost four months of being shut due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, as UK Government restrictions continue to be eased, Ruddington Library is reopening its doors this week. The sudden closure on March 21st not only halted its loans and reference services but also caused the cancellation of special events, such as Henry Normal‘s planned appearance, and halted numerous village classes and group sessions which usually happen in the building on a monthly basis. As COVID-19 Coronavirus loomed large in the UK during March 2020, one of the many village facilities suddenly closed down was Ruddington Library. Ruddington Library is changing its opening times from the start of September. However, the good news is that the total number of hours it’s open for visitors remains the same. Inspire, which now runs the library for Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC), says the new opening hours follow “…a detailed review of current opening times and usage along with local knowledge and customer feedback”.
