Visitors to this year’s Summer Fayre were delighted to find that Ruddington’s very own traditional sweet shop has reopened – just a couple of doors’ down from where it was before!
Sweetie Boutique is a unique, village centre business owned and run by resident Sue Kosciekowski (pictured) who began trading at the front of Julia’s Kitchen at 14, High Street last December. When the former Grange Bakery unit at number 18 then became available to rent she decided to take the plunge with her very own premises, and has spent the last seven weeks putting her unique stamp on the new shop. With the help of others (and the odd sleepless night!) Sue managed to get it ready to open for customers at midday on Saturday (21st July). This was just in time for all those flocking to the 2019 Summer Fayre to give their kids – and themselves – a treat!
It seems her timing was perfect: “I’m shattered but excited – the response has been absolutely amazing and I love it already” said Sue, who welcomed in no less than 164 people on her first day back. Artist Tarl Jackson has spent many weeks creating the unique, new artwork on the walls which provided a welcome splash of colour on a wet summer’s day. “I don’t know where Tarl’s creativity comes from, but it’s brilliant and makes the shop what it is – and it’s all mine.”
For the warmer weather, there are two significant new additions: “We’ve now got soft ice cream and a three barrel slush machine” reveals Sue. “I’ve added to the sour range and the range of peanuts and chocolates, too. There’s more pick ‘n’ mix now, general lollipops, American sweets, Twinkies, popcorn – and even candifloss. Hopefully I’ve now got everything that everybody wants. If not, I’ll try to put it in!”
If you’re eager to pop in yourself, note that Sue’s opening times have been adjusted to be more in line with the rest of our village shops – with the hard working mum now giving herself Sundays off.
Sweetie Boutique is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 5.30pm, Wednesday from 10am until 2pm and 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday. Be sure to make a visit part of your #RuddyGoodDayOut! Also don’t forget to check out Sue’s current ‘Ruddy Good Loyalty Card’ special offer >>HERE<<.
