Organisers of Ruddington’s biennial ‘Teddy Bear Parachute Jump’ – which took place at St Peter’s Church over the weekend – have hailed their event another success.
Jane Piggott, a fundraiser for Save the Children‘s South Notts Branch, says: “Thank you so much to everyone who came along on Saturday (16th September 2023). We were so fortunate to have a fine, warm and partly sunny afternoon and I’m delighted to say the event was once again a great success and raised £600 for Save the Children!”
Around seventy children brought along their soft toys – teddies and other brave animals fitted with parachutes – and watched excitedly as they were launched from the roof of the church. “All but two made successful landings – one got caught in a tree and one landed on a small roof above the doorway, but both were rescued unharmed!” reports Jane. “The St Peter’s Church staff were magnificent; they spent all afternoon up on the roof both launching the parachutes and giving an excellent running commentary. We are very grateful for their support!”
As well as the parachuting, there were stalls selling cakes and biscuits, soft toys and Save the Children Christmas cards, which organisers say were also well supported. There was a children’s lucky dip game which proved very popular, too.
It’s hoped to be able to repeat the event with more daredevil teddies in a couple of years’ time – so please pencil September 2025 into your diary!
