In January we revealed that a new Children’s Society shop was coming to Ruddington. We’re glad to report that it began trading TODAY (Friday 23rd March) from Number 2 Easthorpe Street. It was officially opened at 10.30am by the Mayor of Rushcliffe Councillor Barrie Cooper.
This is our village’s THIRD charity shop, sited where Crusader Gifts‘ clearance shop – and previously Something Special – used to be. This prominent corner unit had lain empty for most of the last two years so to see it back in use, and bustling with activity, is certainly a welcome boost for our High Street. Funds raised here will support the charity’s work with the country’s most vulnerable children and young people – to offer them a listening ear and to give them support.
The new shop’s manager is Nicholas Litherland (pictured top – and with Rushcliffe’s Mayor right) who has only just started working for The Children’s Society. He told RUDDINGTON.info: “We’re looking forward to being part of the village of Ruddington. We’re very grateful to the volunteers we had knocking on the door before we opened. But we need a lot of volunteers and there are many roles and activities they can get involved in”.
The new outlet is also looking for good quality items it can sell to supplement the generous donations already made in advance, alongside some items transferred from their other local branches such as Compton Acres, to fill its shelves ready for this week’s opening. “Ladies’ wear, men’s wear, children’s wear, toys, accessories and books are always really appreciated” says Nicholas. “We’ve got the advantage that we’re a good sized shop, meaning we’ve got a bric-a-brac section as well. So anything that is unwanted – gifts, christmas presents, anything like that – we’ll obviously appreciate having, please.” They also have some new items for sale which are specific to Children’s Society shops – and a dedicated children’s room where the kids can browse.
There’s now a ‘phone number to contact the shop directly should you wish to ask a question, donate items, or offer your help, which is 0115-984-7347. Of course you can just pop in, too!
Ruddington’s Children Society Shop will be open pretty long hours – volunteers permitting – from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. We’re sure they can count on villagers’ support.
