It’s been revealed shoppers will soon have another retail option in our village thanks to Ruddington Service Station.
Owner EG Group has confirmed to RUDDINGTON.info that its recently expanded premises along Loughborough Road will soon become home to ‘ASDA On The Move’. This will replace the current SPAR shop. It’s not yet known whether the existing Greggs and Subway operating alongside it will be retained.
In fact, regular visitors will have noticed quite a lot of brand changing at the site in recent years. In summer 2020 ‘Sainsbury’s On The Go’ replaced the previous SPAR offering there. However, that was rather short-lived and it has since reverted to its former branding – giving Ruddington two SPAR shops at the moment! The latest twist will see products from supermarket giant ASDA becoming available in our village instead.
It’s clear plans for the latest franchise change here are still in their early stages – and are the continuation of a national rollout which began in London late last year. ASDA’s new collaboration with EG Group to open smaller stores on its forecourts will see around 200 sites by the end of this year, including Ruddington.
They promise a larger range of fresh and essential items as we fuel up. These includes up to 2,500 ASDA own brand, premium own-label ‘Extra Special’ and branded products, from key categories including bakery, fresh, chilled and ‘ambient’, along with an extensive range of fresh produce. Celebrity Chef Gino D’Acampo’s exclusive range for ASDA will also be available in these forecourt rollouts.
Debra Lees, ASDA’s senior director of Wholesale and Convenience, told Forecourt Trader: “We want to offer great value Asda products to customers in more convenient locations, including exciting new, exclusive and ‘premium’ ranges. Whether they’re picking up essentials, or looking to grab something for dinner, we want to make sure we offer the best possible range of products we know our customers will love.”
She added: “The five initial ASDA On the Move trial stores have proven that there is a demand for quality, great value products in the heart of local communities, and we’re proud to be bringing this to customers in more areas.”
