Ruddington’s New Sainsbury’s

Eagle-eyed drivers along Loughborough Road may have already spotted the further changes underway at our filling station – with a new Sainsbury’s outlet opening imminently.

For a village which already boasts a Sainsbury’s Local, some may think this is a little excessive. However, this is a rather different shop – aimed more at passing motorists than local residents – and branded “On the Go!” The new retail format was launched in February and is being rolled out to dozens of Euro Garages sites, including here in Ruddington. It focuses on an extended range of ‘food-for-now’ and ‘meal-for-tonight’ options and, interestingly, does not include the sale of alcohol.

An extension built on to the rear of Ruddington Service Station last year allowed the introduction of a bakery, an extra toilet and a storeroom, whilst also creating more floor space for the retail side of the business. This will still include the existing Subway and Greggs – which have both remained open during the latest refurbishment – although fuel was unavailable there temporarily. However, the Spar onsite has been sacrificed, with the new Sainsbury’s shop set to open in its place on Monday August 3rd 2020.

Meantime, an online order and delivery service has been launched at new look Ruddington Co-op Food Store. Our Church Street retailer underwent a major facelift last year and is now expanding its offer to customers who are perhaps still nervous about going out shopping during the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak.

Co-op Member Pioneer for Ruddington and Clifton, Gwen Eyre, tells us: “Here in Ruddington four van drivers have been hired, and the service gives customers the option of shopping online and then either collecting in store or getting a delivery within 2 hours. There is no charge for delivery on baskets over £15.” Gwen adds: “There is also an option to shop in store and have items delivered to home. These different options hopefully can be of benefit to our older or more vulnerable customers.”

You can access the new Ruddington delivery or collection service via www.coop.co.uk/shop.
