Rushcliffe Police are reporting another spate of thefts from vehicles in their patch over the last two days – THREE of them in Ruddington.
These latest incidents took place at Woodhouse Gardens – and in all three cases there were no signs of forced entry. It seems the thieves may have again been targeting vulnerable vehicles – as was the case on Bladon Road, Upper Canaan and Peacock Close in July.
Ruddington residents are urged to remain vigilant against more possible attempted thefts. If you clocked any registration plates of suspicious vehicles potentially involved in these incidents it would be of particular help now that Rushcliffe Police have new, mobile ANPR cameras in use.
So, if you have seen anything suspicious, or have any CCTV footage, you’re asked to ring the Nottinghamshire Constabulary on 101.
Police have also issued the following crime prevention advice:-
• Always lock all doors and close the windows and sunroof.
• Activate any security devices, such as alarms and immobilisers, when leaving your car unattended.
• Never leave your keys in your vehicle, even for a second.
• Never leave the vehicle with the engine running or the keys in the ignition. If your car is stolen in this situation you may not be covered by your insurance.
• Don’t leave anything on display – even an old jacket or loose change can be an appealing target for a thief.
• Do you really need all those things in the glove box? Never store your
vehicle’s documents, such as its logbook and insurance certificate, inside it.
• Don’t forget to remove your satnav device, wipe away the sucker mark from your windscreen and remove the bracket.
• To prevent damage and discourage vandalism, tuck in wing mirrors and remove or put aerials down.
• Number plate theft is becoming increasingly common. Make sure your number plates are secured to your vehicle correctly. Use of security screws or stronger adhesive is recommended, but check with your vehicle manufacturer so as not to invalidate the warranty.
