With our ‘schools out for summer’, village children aged 4 to 11 are now being invited to get involved with this year’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ at Ruddington Library. The aim is to read six books or more between now and September 4th.
The 2022 Challenge has been developed by The Reading Agency in partnership with The Science Museum Group. Called ‘Gadgeteers’, it is a science-filled reading adventure allowing children to explore the science of the world around them. Through taking part in the Challenge, with a free pack from our library, children can join six fictional characters – ‘Gadgeteers’ – as they use creative thinking and some special skills to prepare for a summer party.
To take part in Gadgeteers, all youngsters need to do is to head to Ruddington Library where they will be given a collector poster to start their reading journey. It’s completely free to join. Children choose the books they want to read on their Challenge. It can be stories, fact books or even joke books – all reading counts!
There’s a certificate and medal for every child who completes the challenge by reading six books by September 4th, plus a bookmark, pencil and some very ‘smelly’ stickers as rewards along the way.
Ruddington Library is open from 9.30am to 5.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9.30am to 5pm on Fridays and 9.30am to 1pm on Saturdays. The staff look forward to seeing you.
