Steam, Superheroes & Halloween at GCRN!

Kids of all ages can mix with their comic book heroes during a special themed event this month at Ruddington’s Great Central Railway.

The “Superhero Weekend” at Mere Way on Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th October has been organised by “Superhero Days Out” in conjunction with our local heritage railway. You’re encouraged to go there dressed as your favourite character and feel the excitement on the “Grand Steam Train” as Batman, Spiderman and The Joker battle it out during your hour long journey. Rides will also be available on the miniature railway.

Iron Man and Captain America will be there to escort youngsters to the Bouncy Castle World “disco domes” large slides and climbing walls. Organisers also promise a funfair, children’s entertainer and kids’ face painting.

Local visitors from Ruddington are being offered special discounted rates of only £5 for the Miniature Railway and £8 for the Grand Steam Train on the Saturday, whilst places last. Tickets are available now by calling 07564628040 or emailing

UPDATE SUNDAY 29th OCTOBER: This morning the promoters cancelled Day Two of the Superheroes event. GCRN issued this statement:
“We are open and running as normal. Standard pricing applies. We are unable to honour prebooked tickets and you should contact the vendor for a full refund. We apologise, but this is beyond our control and we are lost for words.”

At 3pm today organisers responded to our request for an explanation by saying: “There was no bookings for Sunday, hence it not being ran. We are processing any refunds”.

ADDITIONALLY, on the Saturday evening the 28th October for the grown-ups, there’s a Halloween Party Prosecco and Music Festival from 7pm till midnight. Organisers say it’ll be a fantastic night, drinking Prosecco from a themed Prosecco Bar, where wines and beers will also be available. There’s “live” music from UK ska band, Ska Brittania, playing hits from such bands as Madness, The Selecter, Bad Manners, & UB40. Also live on stage will be Randell’s Soul & Motown Experience singing tracks from artists such as, The Four Tops, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, McFadden & Thitehead, The Tymes, The Tramps, the O’Jays, Kool & the Gang, Bob Marley & many more. There’ll be hot food, too, and you’re encouraged to dress in your favourite Halloween costume.

The usual ticket price is £10 per person but local visitors from Ruddington are being offered TWO tickets for £10.

Tickets are available now by calling 07564628040 or emailing

Organisers say this event will also support the BBC’s Children in Need appeal with Pudsey Bear himself putting in an appearance!
