Public Meeting: Helping Ukraine Refugees

If you’re interested in how Ruddington can help Ukrainian refugees then you’re invited to this Public Meeting this Sunday, 29th May, from 2.30pm in St Peter’s Church.

Danielle and Tim Pickup from the village arranged this event because they are concerned about the plight of people fleeing from Ukraine.

Danielle explains: “The aim for the meeting is to come together as a community to discuss how we can practically come together to help support hosting families and their Ukrainian guests. Post meeting we are hoping to create supportive networks to help hosts and their Ukrainian families with things such as day to day tasks – like lifts to appointments, shopping, learning to use public transport etc… as well as navigating through the endless paperwork with regards to visas and claiming benefits. We are also hoping to connect Ukrainian families together within the area.”

She adds: “We have the director from Refugee Roots attending and I have just found out that someone from the schools admissions team from Nottinghamshire County Council is coming to answer any questions. We have heard on the grapevine that finding school placements for children has been quite challenging.”

You’re invited to just turn up at the church from 2.30pm for refreshments, then there’ll be a one hour discussion, including your chance to ask questions, between 3pm and 4pm. Everyone’s welcome.
