Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following a distraction burglary in our village.
It’s after a man targeted a vulnerable woman on Dunblane Road in Ruddington and stole money from her. The incident happened on Wednesday (26 February 2020) at around 6.45pm.
Detective Constable Fiona McVey who is leading the investigation, says: “It was reported a man used the name ‘Steve’ and said he was to install a new alarm and safe in the house and that the victim needed to stay in the following day. The man then told her, for insurance purposes, he needed to know how much cash the victim had. He then asked the victim if any family or carers were visiting that evening. We know the same man has visited another property on the same street and given a similar story, on the pretence of fitting a new alarm. Thankfully, on that occasion he did not gain entry to the property.”
Residents in the area are being asked to report any similar suspicious incidents to the police immediately – and also share this story with friends and family, especially the elderly and vulnerable, so they don’t fall victim themselves.
The man is described as white, around 40-50 years old, with short blonde hair, no facial hair, stocky build and wearing a black leather jacket, pale shirt and casual trousers. He was also carrying a red note pad.
