The number of reported crimes in Ruddington fell last month – according to figures for February just released by Rushcliffe Police. In fact, there were just NINE offences in total – most of those being drive-offs from Ruddington Service Station.
However SIX motorists sped off without paying for their fuel between the 1st and 28th February – which is a continuing problem for the Loughborough Road premises. Inspector Craig Berry told RUDDINGTON.info: “That could be solved overnight if the petrol station were to charge in advance. This is a very long running conversation we’re having with businesses.”
Other Ruddington crimes…
…on February 9th, whilst a car was parked on Asher Lane, the passenger side window was smashed and a coat stolen – which was subsequently found dumped further down the lane. It’s prompted a reminder from Police not to leave clothing or bags on display in unattended vehicles – even if they contain nothing of value.
Then, on February 21st, a van was broken into whilst parked on Old Station Drive and tools stolen from within. A second van was broken into on Camelot Street on the same day but nothing was stolen.
Following a perceived “crimewave” over the preceding months it’s certainly welcome news for residents and businesses – and comes after Inspector Berry promised to increase police presence in our village. It seems more frequent patrols have since taken place – with PCSO7424 Anthony Davies due to be pounding the beat here this afternoon (Saturday March 3rd).
Meantime we’re asked to remain vigilant: “If someone is threatening, or committing a crime, you should dial 999″ says the Inspector. “But, if it’s a non-emergency, then please ring us on 101.”
