A Ruddington based charity, which aims to give a better quality of life to dementia sufferers and their families, is celebrating raising over five hundred pounds this summer to continue its work.
This is after Bloomin’ Dementia was selected as Ruddington Parish Council‘s ‘Charity of the Year’ – enabling it to benefit from collections and other fundraisers held in 2018.
“We are very proud and pleased for that to be the case; especially in the village where our ‘Charity Hub’ resides” said trustee Andy Hallam. “Our small organisation now has the feeling of a very vibrant enterprise as we have made great strides with not only our performance and assistance in the field of dementia related matters, but also in the area of achieving funding and financial stability too. So, to be asked by RPC to join them at Ruddington’s Got Talent was very exciting and gave us a great opportunity to create increased awareness of our ethos and services – plus combined efforts from ourselves and The RPC also funds of nearly £538.18 (£438.00 from the raffle, £50.00 donation from the DJ and £33.18 from the charity box at The Great Get Together.”
The sun shone down on Saturday’s Ruddington Summer Fayre which one again attracted hundreds of visitors. Andy provided his disco for the event, compered the talent show and introduced Nottinghamshire and England cricketer (and Ruddington resident!) Jake Ball to draw the raffle: “We are very grateful for the total raised on the day and for the great opportunity to explain the functionality of the charity and the good work we have carried out so far, in the Nottingham community” added Andy.
Following the success of last year’s event, fundraiser Des Oldham has also arranged another 5K Dementia Walk for the charity “From the Forest, With the Forest, To the Forest” on Sunday 26th August. Last time some of the club’s legendary players took part along with dementia sufferers themselves and even Nottingham actress and patron Vicky McClure (pictured left with Des) – altogether raising almost four thousand pounds. Bloomin’ Dementia is hoping this will be repeated! All the 2018 walk details, and how you can donate, may be found >>HERE<<.
Since last November, Blooming’ Dementia is now to be found at No 4, Easthorpe Street, in Ruddington. If you need their help or advice with dementia related issues you can simply drop in – or Justine (pictured top left) is also contactable on 0115-984-3703 between 9am and 4pm.
