The Bottle Top’s Alex is The Tops!

A Ruddington businesswoman has just been named as one of the UK’s most inspirational and dynamic female entrepreneurs. Alex Preston (pictured top), who founded The Bottle Top in our village with husband Anthony in May 2019, is being profiled among one hundred ‘f:Entrepreneurs’ from across the country, as part of Small Business Britain‘s ‘#ialso100′ campaign. This celebrates the multi-achievements of women running businesses in the UK today. Her shop, on Ruddington’s High Street, is a sustainable general store and tap room which showcases a number of small and local producers from craft beer to zero waste…

Ruddington SPAR Shop “Back On”!

It’s been confirmed that the former Sainsbury’s Convenience Store on Dutton’s Hill – most famously the historic home of Grice’s Electricals for over a century before that – will be reopening as a SPAR franchise after all. All seemed set for this new arrival back in March – with the branded signage installed in readiness. However, after a long pause, RUDDINGTON.info heard in May from AF Blakemore & Son Retail – which oversees 275 SPAR convenience stores across England and Wales – that: “…the site in Ruddington will no longer be joining SPAR therefore will not…

Spar Shop Shelved

It seems that plans to bring a SPAR Convenience Store to Dutton’s Hill in Ruddington have been abandoned at the eleventh hour. Agents for the Dutch retailer announced previously that a new franchise would open at 12-14 Wilford Road on March 3rd 2021 – swiftly filling the gap left by our Sainsbury’s Local, which had closed just a month before. Although that launch deadline was missed, the SPAR exterior signage went up a couple of weeks later – even including the store’s opening times and facilities – indicating that all was still on track…

It’s a Shop Swap!

The question of what is to replace Ruddington’s former Sainsbury’s Local on Dutton’s Hill was answered this week – when a new banner (pictured above) appeared outside. Dutch retailer SPAR is soon to move into 12-14 Wilford Road – having itself been replaced by a Sainsbury’s On The Go only last summer at our Loughborough Road filling station. So, effectively, the store chains will have swapped village shops – although the former Grice’s premises are slightly larger and therefore should allow for a more comprehensive range of stock. Ruddington’s new SPAR outlet…

Goodbye Sainsbury’s

Ruddington village centre shoppers will have slightly less choice from this weekend when our Sainsbury’s Local closes its doors permanently – after just over a decade on Dutton’s Hill. RUDDINGTON.info first revealed this shock news back in October last year, when it transpired this shop had already been earmarked for closure over 12 months’ earlier – along with up to 40 other Sainsbury’s outlets across the UK. However, that was before the COVID-19 outbreak when it appeared villagers were actually making very good use of the Wilford Road convenience store during the…

Where’s Ma’s Mah Jong Gone?

An appeal has been launched by a member of a famous Ruddington family for an item of great sentimental value which was accidentally given to a village charity shop. Musician Guy Phethean is on the hunt for a ‘Mah Jong’ set, belonging to his mother Kathy, donated to the Nottinghamshire Hospice Shop in Ruddington in the autumn of 2018. Guy (pictured above with Kathy) now lives in Essex but is keen to track down the set, and the associated hand-made wooden racks. They hold precious memories of his mum who died…

Sainsbury’s to Close!

It’s been announced our Sainsbury’s Local in Ruddington will shut early next year. The shock news comes at a difficult time for many retailers due to the COVID-19 outbreak but, in fact, it appeared villagers were making very good use of our Dutton’s Hill convenience store during ‘lockdown’ – with more of us switching to shopping locally because of the pandemic. However, a Sainsbury’s spokesperson has confirmed to RUDDINGTON.info: “Our Wilford Road Local will be closing in February 2021 and colleagues will have the opportunity to redeploy to other roles in…

Ruddington’s New Sainsbury’s

Eagle-eyed drivers along Loughborough Road may have already spotted the further changes underway at our filling station – with a new Sainsbury’s outlet opening imminently. For a village which already boasts a Sainsbury’s Local, some may think this is a little excessive. However, this is a rather different shop – aimed more at passing motorists than local residents – and branded “On the Go!” The new retail format was launched in February and is being rolled out to dozens of Euro Garages sites, including here in Ruddington. It focuses on an…

Charity Shop’s New Manager

Did you know that our village’s newest charity shop now has a new face at the helm? Stephanie Reed took over as the manager of Ruddington’s Children’s Society branch late last year. The fundraising outlet on the corner of High Street and Easthorpe Street first opened its doors in March 2018. The charity is pleased to report that, since then, it has had a good response for donations and is now able stand on its own two feet with stock mostly donated by local people. Money raised at The Children’s Society’s shop here in Ruddington…

New Charity Shop Opens

In January we revealed that a new Children’s Society shop was coming to Ruddington. We’re glad to report that it began trading TODAY (Friday 23rd March) from Number 2 Easthorpe Street. It was officially opened at 10.30am by the Mayor of Rushcliffe Councillor Barrie Cooper. This is our village’s THIRD charity shop, sited where Crusader Gifts‘ clearance shop – and previously  Something Special – used to be. This prominent corner unit had lain empty for most of the last two years so to see it back in use, and bustling with activity, is…
