Village Gridlock!

Ruddington residents have been looking at their High Street with despair this morning after yet another set of unannounced four-way temporary traffic lights appeared!

It was known that parking restrictions were to be put into place from 8am today (Sunday September the 3rd) until 5pm on Sunday the 17th of September to allow work to be carried out on the High Street side of Ruddington Fish Bar (their former pizza takeaway entrance) to re-render the walls. The scaffolding means that no parking, waiting, loading nor unloading is now being allowed from the northern boundary of number 8 Wilford Road (Dutton’s Hill) in a southerly direction to the northern boundary of number 8 High Street (see map). Additionally, without prior warning, temporary signals have ALSO been erected to control traffic. To add to the confusion the Zebra Crossing has been taken out of use, too!

This echoes the situation in July when there was a week of traffic chaos at the same junction (with Church Street and Easthorpe Street) when the Red Lion was being repainted. On that occasion temporary traffic lights were only there for a week. This time it seems they could be in place for a fortnight.

The pictures below were taken just after 9am today (Sunday). It can only be imagined what gridlock will be caused at peak times in the coming weeks – especially with the schools returning.

Unfortunately that’s not the whole story either!

TWO OTHER sets of roadworks involving temporary traffic lights begin in Ruddington THIS WEEK:-

All these works are likely to cause significant delays for Ruddington residents, bus users and commuters. You’re advised to allow extra time for your journey at peak periods.

UPDATE 18th September 2017: Rendering work on the chip shop has taken longer than expected and is now not likely to finish until Friday 22nd September.
