By now every household in our village should have had a leaflet like this through their letterbox. Its aim is to ensure that even our elderly and vulnerable residents, who’re not internet savvy, are aware of the help and support available in Ruddington to get them through the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak. As previously reported, it follows a ‘Community Call Up’ from Laura Ratcliffe of Ruddington Mums just over a week ago, when she asked residents who knew of any people in our village who would struggle, if required to self-isolate due to…

Schools Out on Friday!
Working parents in Ruddington have now got another potential headache – as all schoolchildren will be sent home for an indefinite period on Friday (20th March) due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced this afternoon that all Schools in England and Wales will close at the end of this week – except for those looking after the children of key workers and vulnerable children – such as those who might go hungry without their daily school meals. Education secretary Gavin Williamson has also said school exams will not…
Read MoreRuddington Rallies Community to Cope with Coronavirus
As every news update brings us more alarming news about the spread of COVID-19 around the UK, and as measures suggested by the government become more and more stringent to try to prevent this, Ruddington has already come together in a quite astonishing way to help out those in our community who are elderly or vulnerable. The impacts of the virus first began to be felt in our village around a week ago when some shoppers started panic buying. Then we reported on the ‘Community Call Up’ just before the…

Ruddington Parish Council has announced it has now completed the purchase of the former Youth & Community Centre site on The Green from Nottinghamshire County Council for use by our community in the future. It’ll be considering options on how to use the building (pictured above, in 2017, before it was targeted by vandals) and consulting with residents and local businesses in due course. In the short term, the Council says it intends to make use of the Community Centre’s parking spaces to help ease parking issues within the village…
Read MoreTraffic In The Village
Ruddington’s traffic problems are always a controversial subject. Long standing gripes such as continuing to allow parking on Dutton’s Hill were supplemented last year with outrage caused by the unexpected permission for 175 new houses off Asher Lane – possibly leading to traffic lights on High Street. Most recently we’ve seen the controversial approval of residents-only parking for most of Charles Street and Parkyns Street during village shopping hours. Even roads around our Business Park are now due to be to be decorated with a mass of double yellow lines.…
Read MoreRuddington Tree Wardens Wanted
An appeal has been launched by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) for environmentally minded Ruddington residents to apply to become tree wardens – and ensure the trees in our village are protected and nurtured. Tree wardens are volunteers appointed by Parish Councils to champion local trees and woods, involve fellow residents in tree projects and protect local trees by reporting early signs of insect pests, disease and vandalism. The initiative follows RBC’s free tree scheme last year – which saw over 1,600 trees given to residents and Parish Councils to plant in…
Read MoreHike in Our Council Tax Likely
Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) is defending its proposals to increase Council Tax by double the rate of inflation – blaming ongoing reductions in Government funding, combined with a spiralling demand for social care services. Councillor Richard Jackson, Chairman of its Finance and Major Contracts Committee, said: “We’ve made significant progress in reducing the budget deficit we inherited when taking office in 2017 but it is fair to say that making savings is getting tougher each year – and will continue to do so. Regrettably, it appears that we will have no choice…
Read MoreAmbitious Former DIY Shop Plans
There could soon be two rather striking new buildings in Ruddington if a state-of-the-art scheme for a former DIY shop site is given the go-ahead by Rushcliffe planners. H.A. Bostock ceased trading at 70 Wilford Road last year after 56 years – when owners Tony and Hazel Theaker retired. You can read their story HERE. The property was put up for sale with outline planning permission already granted to demolish the existing building (left) and for two traditional three-storey semi-detached homes to be built there. However it was bought by Mascari Design Solutions Ltd who have spent most of the past…

The annual event due to be held this week, from the 13th to the 16th July, has been postponed because of standing water and surface damage on Sellors’ Field. Ruddington Parish Council, which manages the recreation ground, said it hopes The Wakes – a traditional, travelling funfair with amusements – can be rearranged for the end of August. Clerk to the Council, Gary Long, has issued a statement explaining “Some work is being undertaken on the field to fill in and level out the dips in the goalmouths and some ruts in the…
