Ruddington Traders Join #MyHighStreet Initiative

Last month we told you about the launch of the 2018 “Great British High Street Awards” run by The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. If successful, our village could scoop £10,000 to spend on improvements to its shopping areas. We’re pleased to report that Ruddington village centre businesses have got together to create a submission which has been entered in the ‘Customer Experience’ category. Julie Smith of Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) told us: “We’re using our community strength and building more reasons to shop local – with ideas for improving the customer experience…

Village Centre Partnership Progress

Back in April we reported how local traders in Ruddington began exploring innovative new ways they might work together to attract more residents and visitors to use our village centre. The Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) was formed after the sudden and unexpected closure of Thomas’s the greengrocers prompted an extraordinary meeting of Ruddington Parish Council – resulting in numerous business people and concerned residents coming together to volunteer their help in whatever ways they could. Councillor Ian Wilson, who’s co-ordinating the partnership, told us: “Over the past couple of months the group has…

Celebrating The Great British High Street

Ruddington is kick-starting a celebration of local high streets in a new initiative from Rushcliffe Borough Council to promote the great businesses that exist within its communities. From TODAY (July 16th) the week long campaign sees the authority showcasing high street retailers and encouraging them to work together in their neighbourhoods to submit an application to the 2018 “Great British High Street Awards” run by The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. Traders’ Task Force Takes Shape

Businesses in Ruddington have begun exploring innovative new ways they might work together in order to attract more residents and visitors to use our village centre. Standing Room Only at Extraordinary Meeting

Parish Councillors were left in no doubt about how passionately Ruddingtonians care about the future of our unique village centre after people packed into their specially called meeting.  Around 140 residents and traders turned up to have their say tonight (Thursday 12th April) and to hear what help the Parish Council and the community might be able to offer local businesses during tough times for traditional shops. Over recent years, as in many towns and villages, Ruddington’s banks have shut down – inevitably reducing footfall for other traders – whilst…

Ruddington Traffic Chaos to Continue?

There’s frustration among Ruddington’s road users after 4-way temporary traffic lights suddenly sprang up in our village centre at the weekend. Although it was known the exterior of the Red Lion was due to be repainted there was little advance warning that the impact for motorists would be so severe. New scaffolding erected around the pub is taking a short section of both High Street and Easthorpe Street down to a single lane – meaning that 24-hour signals are needed. Since Sunday there have been severe peak time delays for drivers. Nottingham City Transport‘s Navy 3 and Green 10…

Julia’s New Kitchen

After four years on Church Street, a popular Ruddington cake making business has just moved premises – and can now be found on High Street in the former Gracie’s/Village Café. ‘Julia’s Kitchen Cake Boutique’ was the brainchild of entrepreneur Julia Towers who’s done catering since leaving school. But it was the cupcakes and birthday cakes she started making for appreciative friends at home in Clifton that led her to turn it into an online business on Facebook around five years ago. “Then, a year later, with over 4000 friends, orders from all…
