Severe thunderstorms sweeping across the region, bringing with them violent, torrential rain, have caused flash flooding in our village centre along with other residential streets in Ruddington. The heaviest rain began just after 5pm – when many drains were simply unable to cope with the massive deluge. Within minutes High Street was underwater – as shown by these residents and traders’ photographs and a video taken by Andy Heath of The Frame Breakers. The problem for shopkeepers was initially aggravated by traffic continuing to drive along the road, causing waves…

Ruddington can now boast a new, independent estate agent and lettings agency – with the launch of Benwell Daykin at our former chemist’s shop at 12 High Street. Since RUDDINGTON.info revealed last October which business would be taking over these historic village centre premises, the necessary permissions have been obtained and a total refurbishment carried out in readiness for the official opening of the fresh and vibrant offices on January 6th. Co-owner Ricky Benwell, who grew up in the village and is the driving force behind the new venture, says:…

A Ruddington based business, which is more accustomed to moving others, has itself just relocated – but only to the other side of High Street! Thomas James has been a growing, independent estate agent, selling properties since 2003, and opened its flagship branch in Ruddington in 2007. Its ongoing success in our village and further afield has since led to the opening of five other branches across Nottinghamshire. The brand new, and rather more plush, Ruddington premises are now open on the corner with Charles Street – occupying part of the…
Read MoreThe Changing Face of Our High Street
Ruddington’s historic village centre is currently undergoing some of the biggest remodelling in decades – with two major demolition and reconstruction projects now underway at either side of High Street. It’s hoped short term pain will lead to long term gain by enabling new businesses to trade from brand new purpose-built premises on the sites of both the former Thomas’s Greengrocers storage building and the old Barclay & Cook Convenience Store. Meantime there are changes underway at some of our existing High Street shops, too. Sadly one of these is the…

There’s just been a very useful new addition to our High Street – something that’s actually been missing for the past three and a half years. Thanks to Ruddington’s Postmaster Soham Patel, the Post Office now has an external post box again! Anyone who was in the village before February 2016 will remember there was, in fact, a rather magnificent red pillar-box here which got moved to make way for an exterior cashpoint. The new hole-in-the-wall was kindly installed by the Patels to compensate for the loss of TWO former High…

The Ruddy Good Loyalty Card, launched at the start of this month, seems to be getting the thumbs-up from Ruddington village shoppers and traders so far. The FREE new card, which offers monthly #RUDDYGOODOFFERS at dozens of our village centre outlets, was the idea of the Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP). It is seen as a great way of encouraging residents and workers to spend their time and money here rather than elsewhere – in addition to attracting regular visitors to use our businesses by showcasing what they have to…

An exciting new initiative to encourage more residents and visitors to use our village centre shops, pubs, cafés, restaurants, takeaways and other traders will launch at the start of next month. The Ruddington Loyalty Scheme comes as high street retailers everywhere are facing more challenging trading conditions in these increasingly internet-dominated times. The introduction of the village loyalty card was on the agenda at a special meeting for local businesses last night (18th September) organised by the recently formed Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) group. It was hosted by Julie Smith from…
