This latest photo from the Teso Region of Eastern Uganda shows how a classroom building project is moving forward nicely despite the problems of COVID-19 both in the UK and equatorial Africa. The project to provide a High School for children in Aminit is supported by St Peter’s Church and represents the second secondary school that they have been involved in building in Uganda over the last 15 years. ‘Laptops for Learning’ Village School Appeal

A community spirited Ruddington computer repairer has come to the aid of cash-strapped local parents whose children need access to a laptop for their studies during ‘lockdown’. With kids at home again whilst our schools are closed due to the latest Coronavirus surge, Damien Coggin (pictured above), of Ruddington Computers on St Mary’s Crescent, has stepped in to fix for free unwanted laptops which are passed on to St Peter’s C of E Junior School. The Ruddington COVID-19 Community Response Team – which was formed last month primarily to help older and more vulnerable villagers who were self-isolating due to the Coronavirus outbreak – has leapt into action again! This time it’s to assist our two schools in enabling further home schooling for village children, which is restarting this week. Under normal circumstances, of course, ‘homework’ would not necessarily be that popular. New Writers and Knitters Groups in Ruddington

Ruddington Library is starting TWO new regular hobby groups this month. The first is a Writing Group that will meet fortnightly from Friday 5th July until Friday 16th August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. The sessions will focus on fun, informal writing exercises in a supportive and no-pressure environment. Themes and direction will develop with the interests of the group. Parents Protest Against Proposed School Redundancies

Dozens of parents and pupils gathered outside James Peacock Infant and Primary School in Ruddington this morning to protest at plans to make ‘a significant number’ of Teaching Assistants (TAs) there redundant. On 1st June 2018, trustees and volunteers for Ruddington based charity The Mustard Seed Project (Uganda) waved goodbye to a 40 foot container which was crammed full of items that were sourced and donated to send to Uganda. In March, around a hundred retired and semi retired local residents who attended an information meeting decided unanimously to start a U3A (The University of the Third Age) in Ruddington. Nationally there are over one thousand U3A’s. The aim of this new venture in our village is “to enable members to enrich their lives with new skills and experiences, pursue their interests, form new friendships and enjoy a sense of belonging to a vibrant community”.
