Grab a Tree for Free!

Ruddington residents and groups can make their properties and communities even greener by applying for FREE trees for a third year running. It’s part of a continuing strategy by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) to provide ‘sustainable environments’ – as villagers brace ourselves for significant housing growth in the next decade. Over 5,700 trees have already been distributed by the authority since the start of its campaign in 2018. This time around, crab apple and hazel trees are available without charge. The crab apple, or Malus Sylvestris, can grow to 12 metres and…

Mass Tree Planting by Ruddington’s ‘Green Team’!

The challenging issues of climate change and plastic pollution are at the forefront of many people’s minds at the moment. That includes dozens of environmentally conscious pupils at St Peter’s Junior School in Ruddington – who have got together to form ‘The Green Team.’ The seed was sewn after a group of schoolchildren attended last year’s WE Day event in London which inspired them to think about sustainability, raise awareness of green issues and take action to protect the planet on which we live. Deputy Head, Mr Mawer, explains: “After that, a…

More Ruddington Recycling

Towns and villages across Rushcliffe have just received further recycling and litter bins to help promote ‘Recycling On The Go’ – an initiative to reduce street litter and encourage residents to place items in the right place and the right bin. The dual stream recycling bins allow recyclable cans and plastic bottles to be placed in one side and general waste in the other. Church Street in Ruddington, next to the bench near the war memorial, is one of the new locations to benefit. Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder…

Our Navy 3’s going Greener!

Ruddington’s main bus provider is set to further reduce its carbon footprint thanks to £2.7m of funding from DEFRA’s Clean Vehicle Technology Fund. The cash follows a successful joint bid from the bus operator and Nottingham City Council. NCT’s younger diesel buses are capable of being upgraded to the latest more stringent Euro VI standards, resulting in tailpipe emissions which are claimed to be…

Country Park Café Consultation

Rushcliffe Borough Council has launched a new survey asking if locals and visitors would like to see a dedicated café at Ruddington’s Country Park. It wants you to have YOUR say on whether you think it’s a good idea – AND whether you’d use it? Since 2015 the council has been working with Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park (FoRCP), Franklin Ellis Architects and The University of Nottingham on a proposal to refurbish and upgrade the existing building – and perhaps to extend it to create a permanent new café. This follows a previous public consultation by Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park held there last September…

Eco Buses For Green 10 Service

Nottingham City Transport has confirmed that Ruddington will be one of the first places to benefit from its brand new eco-friendly buses. Several will be introduced on our Green 10 route early next month. They’re among 53 low emission, bio-gas powered, double deckers being added to the operator’s fleet following the award of a £4.4m grant from the Government’s OLEV Low Emission Bus Scheme last year – which was added to an investment of £12.4m from NCT itself. “We’ve always taken our environmental impact responsibilities very seriously and have long had one of the youngest and…
