Mortgage lender Halifax has reported this week that house prices in the UK rose by the most in almost 15 years during September. This came as the stamp-duty holiday came to an end – and the Halifax predicts that prices will continue to climb to new record high levels. Prices rose by 1.7% from August, the biggest monthly increase since February 2007. In annual terms, house price growth also accelerated to 7.4% from 7.2% in August having slowed in each of the previous three months. The housing market in the…

‘Back to Normal’ at Ruddington Library
Ruddington Library is reverting to its pre-pandemic opening times from today (5th October). Since March last year our library has been completely closed during three COVID-19 ‘lockdowns’ and then reduced to opening just two half days a week ever since. Whilst Tuesday’s hours had already been extended recently – with a second opportunity each week to visit on Friday afternoons – the Church Street premises are now also open again on Thursdays and Saturdays during the times shown below. Monday: Closed Tuesday: 9.30am – 5.30pm Wednesday: Closed Thursday: 9.30am –…
Read MoreThere’s Movement at the Methodists’
Following an unprecedented period where there has been a very uncharacteristic lack of activity at the distinctive and historic Church Street building, Ruddington Methodist Church springs back to life this weekend! Of course, like many others in our village, the chapel (dating from 1873) was closed for services and other gatherings in March 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It’s just taken a little longer than some to get restarted, now all COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Kathy Powis reveals: “After nearly 18 months of complete shut-down or occasional services, we are…

This weekend’s official opening of Ruddington’s new skate park has been hailed a great success by organisers – after people of all ages and abilities flocked to the special sessions arranged for its launch at Rushcliffe Country Park yesterday (Saturday 14th August). Although the £210,000 state-of-the-art facility actually opened in June, it was decided to wait until all COVID-19 restrictions had been lifted to put on this more formal event. Beginners and more advanced boarders from Ruddington and beyond joined together from 9.30am for the sessions provided by Skate Nottingham. These included…

Ruddington’s much loved annual Beer and Cider Festival, which was cancelled completely in 2020 due to COVID-19, will go ahead this year – at the end of this month! Read MoreFace-to-Face U3A Meetings Resume
Like everything else involving close human contact, the diverse range of Ruddington & District U3A meetings – which was continuing to expand since the local group established itself in 2018 – came to an abrupt halt early last year because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Although a few online village meetings and talks have taken place on Zoom since then, only following the latest “full” easing of COVID-19 restrictions have local U3A organisers decided to start getting people together in person again. U3A is short for The University of the Third…
