Following the Prime Minister’s latest announcement that people who cannot work from home should now try to go back to their jobs, Ruddington’s main bus provider has issued a statement to clarify the current situation on its services. Nottingham City Transport (NCT) is currently operating a temporary, “core” timetable on our village Green 10 route (which can be found >>HERE<<). Although, in England, the number of COVID-19 infections and deaths has fallen, the Government is continuing to tell people to avoid using public transport whilst ever the danger of catching Coronavirus remains…

COVID-19 Crime Figures
During the first full month of Ruddington’s ‘lockdown’ due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus, officers have revealed a slight increase in the level of crime around our village – despite many people being at home throughout April. Statistics published by Rushcliffe Police show the number of reported incidents in Ruddington rose from eleven in March 2020 to thirteen incidents last month – primarily burglaries and vehicle crime. In terms of policing the pandemic, Inspector Craig Berry says: “Our role, as it has been since the restrictions were put into place, is to engage…
Read MoreVirtual VE Day in Ruddington!
If society was operating normally, the weekend of 8th to 10th May would have been a period of national commemoration for the 75th Anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe), which marked the end of the Second World War against Germany. In Ruddington, a community event was scheduled to take place on The Green on Saturday 9th May. Unfortunately, like numerous other events, this has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown. Given our current requirement is to “Stay at Home”, an alternative way of marking this historically significant…

The fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the UK has been ongoing in earnest since the big UK lockdown began on Tuesday March 24th 2020. Even before that, panic buying of items such as toilet rolls and cleansing products had begun to clear our supermarket shelves as villagers became aware of the approaching pandemic. All this happened just as Ruddington couple Cheryl Stretton and Rory Thorpe were preparing to launch their brand new gin distillery – an idea they’d been experimenting with at home since last year. “We both like Gin and…

Ruddington’s main bus operator is reminding passengers that we must travel only for essential journeys until there is a sufficient relaxation of the current government restrictions due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Until then, Nottingham City Transport (NCT) is running a ‘core network’ of services, including the Green 10 from our village to the City via Loughborough Road and the Wolds Estate. The revised timetable can be found >>HERE<<. This slimmed down service is to ensure key workers can still travel, along with those needing to use the bus for essential shopping or medical needs. You can find information…

After celebrating its first anniversary in February 2020, and continuing as scheduled in March, Ruddington’s popular Village Market was then cancelled for April – until further notice – as the threat of COVID-19 Coronavirus loomed large in the UK. Organisers Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) decided to suspend the monthly event in the interests of public health and safety – even before the approaching pandemic prompted the Government’s closure of restaurants and pubs, such as market venue The White Horse – which would have made holding it impossible anyway. However, for those…

He has already begun documenting these unprecedented times along the numerous residential streets of our substantial South Nottinghamshire village. “When the lockdown measures were introduced I was unable to get out and create street portraits or…

Ruddington’s Framework Knitters’ Museum is inviting any frustrated creatives to support one another by helping to produce a quilt – made up of individual textile ‘responses’ to the unprecedented events and experiences of the 2020 COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak. The project is being led by Common Threads, an organisation which supports wellbeing through creativity inspired by historical collections. Explaining where the idea came from, Museum Manager, Jim Grevatte, says: “Our site has the amazing power to inspire resilience through creativity. It’s the story of our region’s textile industry struggling to make beautiful…
