Man Arrested Following Incidents at Ruddington Stores

A man is in police custody in connection with a robbery and an attempted robbery at our village supermarkets.

Rushcliffe Police report that a man entered Sainsbury’s Local on Dutton’s Hill (above) at about 5.40pm yesterday (Saturday 5 October 2019). He demanded a cashier should open the till – but ran off empty handed after the cashier sounded an alarm.

About 10 minutes later a man entered Ruddington Co-op on Church Street. He went over to the till and asked for some items. As the till was opened he grabbed some cash, leaving the store with a bag of coins.

Staff chased after the man and detained him until officers arrived soon afterwards. Social media reports quick-thinking store worker Leo Lanzoni being the hero of the moment – assisted by a member of the public who helped him keep the suspect at the scene.

Police say a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbery and possession of a bladed article. He remains in custody.

The second incident occurred at Ruddington Co-op on Church Street just minutes later
