After having escaped the worst impacts of the bad weather sweeping the UK earlier this week, Ruddington has seen the heaviest snowfall of the winter during the past 24 hours – thanks to the effects of the so-called “Beast From The East”.
Villagers awoke to a blanket of around three inches of drifting snow this morning – accompanied by icy north-easterly winds. Driving conditions were treacherous for a while, however Nottingham City Transport has so far managed to maintain a near-normal service on our Navy 3 and Green 10 buses throughout. St Peter’s Junior School opened as usual this morning, although it cancelled all clubs and postponed tonight’s 5R parents’ evening. But it’s now also announced that it won’t open tomorrow for lessons (Friday 2nd March). James Peacock Infant & Nursery School did close today due to the adverse weather and has now decided that it will stay closed tomorrow (Friday 2nd March). Meantime older pupils attending Rushcliffe School will also get another day at home.
Other casualties from today’s snow include Ruddington Library, The Old Bakehouse Tearoom and our Framework Knitters’ Museum – which were all unable to open due to staff and/or volunteers being unable to get here. Also the Rushcliffe 10K, 5K and Fun Run scheduled to take place this coming Sunday 4th March has been postponed by organisers due to the icy conditions – and rescheduled for Sunday 25th March.
Organisers – Please contact us as soon as possible with any further Ruddington cancellations or postponements you’d like us to alert people to >>HERE<< or by messaging us @RUDDINGTON_info or via Ruddington’s Facebook page.
Meantime enjoy these photographs from this morning of “Ruddington in the Snow”…
