Police Report Record Haul During Knife Amnesty

Community support is being acknowledged in helping Nottinghamshire Police recover a record number of weapons during the nationwide ‘Operation Sceptre’ week of action last month.

Officers reveal that, across our county, more than 1,000 weapons were taken out of circulation. 949 were handed in through the knife amnesty, between the 16th and 22nd September, and the rest through weapons sweeps, targeted operations and stop and search activity.

Inspector Craig Berry

Inspector Craig Berry of Rushcliffe Police reports that a number of knives were handed in to West Bridgford Police station – whilst a machete was recovered in nearby Edwalton and has been destroyed. However, it’s not believed any knives or other bladed weapons were found in Ruddington.

“I am pleased to advise that all front line officers, including those on Rushcliffe, are being given additional lifesaving training to deal with serious injuries” says Inspector Berry. “This includes training on how to use tourniquets and packing wounds to stop major bleeds which could help prevent fatalities while paramedics are travelling to an incident. Each patrol vehicle will have a medical pack that are already placed in our response vehicles.”

As September’s crime statistics for Ruddington are released, the Inspector adds: “We are regularly asking for help from the public to identify suspects in crimes, we ask that you take time to look at these requests and contact us if you are able to identify anyone we wish to speak with, please follow the instructions on each request”.
