After being delayed by repair work to Sellors’ Recreation Ground, the rescheduled dates for the 2016 “Ruddington Wakes” funfair have been announced.
It’s now taking place THIS week – just a fortnight later than originally planned! The dates and times can be seen on their poster.
This traditional event dates back one hundred years when the St Peter’s Feast was the start of the school holidays in the village, around the 29th June, and the “Wakes” were then held on The Green.
Since 1968 the village event has been held on Sellors’ Playing Field, which is on Wilford Road. This land was a gift to the people of our village by Frederick William Sellors to be used in perpetuity as a recreation ground. The covenant still stands to this day.
Setting up will begin in the next couple of days ready to open the rides and attractions at 5.30pm on Thursday 28th. The funfair will be here for four days. There’s a link to discount vouchers from Cox’s Amusements offering 50p off fairground rides HERE.
Catch the Nottingham City Transport Navy 3 bus service to the event and alight at Paget Crescent.
