Ruddington residents might find it quite reassuring – although perhaps a little bizarre – that a blazing plant pot was one of just eleven recorded crimes in our village during the whole of July.
The offences reported over this 31 day summer period also included three burglaries and five other thefts. The full list kindly supplied to us by Rushcliffe Police is below:
2nd Theft of two bikes by breaking into locked shed in Distillery Street
3rd Vehicle taking fuel without making payment at Esso Station on Loughborough Road
5th Plant pot set on fire in the garden of property on Camelot Street
11th Vehicle stopped by Police Wilford road containing goods stolen from a shop
16th Motorbike stolen from car park of business premises on Mere Way
17th Burglary – items stolen from detached office at residential property on Easthorpe

17th Criminal damage secure motorbike pushed over, causing damage, at Roe Gardens
17th Theft of wallet from a car parked outside shop on Clifton Road
21st Burglary entry gained through open window and wallet stolen at Pear Tree Orchard
28th Attempted walk in Burglary at 1.30am on Loughborough Road
31st Theft from shop Sainsbury’s on Wilford Road

Although none of these offences during July constitutes a major incident, crime does often have a lasting effect on its victims and on our general sense of security and wellbeing in what is a relatively safe village. So we’re urged to keep our eyes open in order to help the police track down the perpetrators – often repeat offenders responsible for multiple crimes – as well as taking sensible measures ourselves to avoid making life easy for the criminals.
