Mustard Seed Success

Ruddington’s Mustard Seed Project has revealed it’s made a four figure sum from its latest fundraiser – and then some!

The charity – which secures funds to provide clean water, food and an education for children in Teso, Uganda – held its second ‘Knickers for Knowledge Fashion Show’ at St Peter’s School in our village last night (Friday 9th March) asking for donations of new knickers, a bra or a child’s book from those who attended.

But the money raised came primarily from the event tickets, the sale of top fashion brands at discounted prices which were modelled on its ‘catwalk’, and from the sale of raffle tickets following the generous donation of some very desirable prizes which were drawn on the night. These included dinner, bed & breakfast for two at a Radisson Blu Hotel, a Spa Day for two at Eden Hall, and even a ‘fountain of fizz’ raffle for attendees!

Today organisers posted: “Thanks to everyone who came last night and to everyone who bought raffle tickets. What a great night!” They then revealed: “We raised a staggering £3,200.00 which will go a long way indeed. Thanks also to our amazing Mustard Seed trustees and volunteers. You were all fabulous!”

Next up, representatives from the Ruddington based charity are returning to Uganda to visit the communities they are supporting. The two founders, James Peacock School assistant head teacher Sally Squires and teaching assistant Jayne Henson – along with St Peter’s Junior School Deputy Head Ian Mawer AND Professor Louise Mullany from the University of Nottingham – are all flying out there at the end of this month.
