Makers’ Night is Back

Almost two years after the last Ruddington Makers’ Night, in December 2019, this much loved arts and crafts evening across our village is set to return this September.

With the easing of restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic – which had caused Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) to cancel its last three planned Makers’ Nights on public safety grounds – this gathering of creatives will go ahead on Friday 10th September 2021 assuming all goes to plan regarding COVID-19.

Organised by RVCP in collaboration with the Framework Knitters’ Museum and the new Debbie Bryan Gallery, this year’s Makers’ Night expands from the original three indoor village venues to six indoor and outdoor locations. As before, many village centre shops will open late and host creative traders from 4pm to 9pm.

The main venues this time will be St Peter’s Church, The White Horse Inn, The Frame Breakers pub, The Cottage Hotel (top photo), The Framework Knitters’ Museum and our village green. Over 60 stalls are promised, with every kind of art and craft represented, plus ‘live’ music, street food and more.

There’s now an update about what crafters are at which venues >>HERE<<.

Mark Pinks of RVCP says: “We’re very excited that Makers’ Night is back, supported by ‘Welcome Back’ funding from the England European Regional Development Fund. We’ll reveal more about the night soon but, in the meantime, if you’re a maker interested in a stall, be quick! Applications are open NOW until Tuesday 3rd August at 5pm at www.ruddingtonvillagemarket.co.uk/makers-night.”

Jim Grevatte, of Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum, reveals: “This will also be an opportunity to get a sneak preview of our newly redeveloped museum on Chapel Street, which celebrates 400 years of textile innovation. Makers will once more fill this historic building with their creations. The event is showcasing work from our talented young creatives, Ruddington Young Makers, too.”

Debbie Bryan, who launched her Ruddington gallery (above) at 15, High Street last October tells us the reputation of the Makers’ Night preceded her arrival. “As soon as we opened in the village, this is something a lot of our customers were talking about. So clearly we wanted to get involved and work with Stella (RVCP) and Jim to make our contribution – and it’s really amazing to be involved! We’ve been overwhelmed by the support of the village for us, so it’s our chance to give something back. It’s also given us the chance to meet Reverend Andrew Buchanan from the church to help co-ordinate Makers’ Night there.”

Admission to all venues will be FREE, and an illustrated ‘artisan craft trail’ map will be available to guide you around the village. Please keep checking back here for more Makers’ Night details nearer the time!
