In line with the UK Government’s new national COVID-19 rules, it’s been confirmed Ruddington Library will not be opening during the new ‘lockdown’.
As it stands, this means its doors will remain closed to villagers this Friday (November 6th), and on future Tuesdays and Fridays when it should have been open, through until Tuesday December 1st. It’s possible this closure may last even longer if current Coronavirus restrictions are extended, or if they are followed by tougher, local restrictions in Rushcliffe.
First time around, the Church Street library was shut for almost four months. It was finally reopened on July 14th for two days each week after stringent new COVID-safe measures were put in place. These much reduced hours of Tuesdays 10.00am to 1.00pm and Fridays 1.00pm to 4.00pm have continued since then – much to the chagrin of some users – along with the unavailability of some of its usual services.
However, Nottinghamshire County Council’s Libraries and Archive Services, managed by Inspire Culture, has announced it will continue to offer a ‘Click & Collect’ online whilst Ruddington Library is unavailable. Also, during this closure period, borrowers will not need to renew items due back from 2nd November until 14th December.
Cllr Kay Cutts, MBE, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council says: “We know how much people value our library services which will continue to support customers in a virtual way, providing lots to read, learn, research and enjoy. There are lots of activities and services people can access which may help to occupy them during the lockdown. As soon as we’re in a position to reopen our buildings safely we will do so. Until then, please use the opportunity to access our wonderful cultural services from the comfort of your home!”
Peter Gaw, Inspire’s Chief Executive, adds: “We are pleased we are able to still provide our Click & Collect service as we know reading during lockdown is one of those things people want to do, and we know it helps many of us get through the challenges we are all facing”, Our online library, cultural, heritage and learning offer has something for everyone and a great place to be inspired whilst our buildings are closed”.
Currently it’s hoped Ruddington Library will be back open for visitors on Friday December 4th. Meantime, you’re invited to click >>HERE<< for news updates, access to resources and information about remote access to some of its other services.
