Ruddington’s ‘High Street Heroes’!

On the eve of the inaugural Ruddington Village Market, it’s been announced that our village is to be the first in Rushcliffe to feature at the start of a special series of magazine articles – in a publication distributed to over 60,000 homes.

The new Rushcliffe Reports feature is to be called ‘High Street Heroes’ and will start this April by focusing on the sterling efforts of Ruddington Village Centre Partnership (RVCP) in attracting people to visit local businesses in and around our own High Street and helping them prosper. The group was formed last April as a mixture of local business owners, residents and members of Ruddington Parish Council who could see the advantage of bringing local traders’ expertise together to create various projects.

Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth and Business, Cllr Andy Edyvean, said: “This is a fitting first example of ‘High Street Heroes’ – a group who have really taken up the mantle in Ruddington to show what is achievable in a relatively short space of time when businesses are willing to work together. It’s fantastic to see people coming together and enabling their own communities to thrive.”

RVCP’s initiatives so far have included launching a village loyalty card, a festive ‘Twelve Days of Traders’ video and teaming up with RUDDINGTON.info to promote its activities and benefits. These include feature articles, listing the loyalty card traders’ monthly offers and even including these businesses in the latest edition of ‘NCT’s Ruddy Good Day Out’ guide booklet, which has been distributed throughout Nottingham.

Cllr Edyvean added: “The village market looks set to be a wonderful event that has captured local imagination and we wish RVCP every success with it. Wherever we can we will support our towns’ and villages’ efforts who introduce new ideas and such positive initiatives.” He’s pictured top (centre), outside The White Horse (holding the sign), surrounded by RVCP’s Julie Smith, Tony Woods, Mark Pinks, Mike Ader, and yours truly from RUDDINGTON.info.

Mike, who is RVCP Chairman, said his group is grateful for the extra support and publicity: “This is the second major initiative by the RVCP, which we hope will prove very popular with both residents and also visitors to the village. The aim is to run the market every month and expand it as time goes on.”

Fresh fruit and vegetable boxes will be available at the market together with the range of stalls including Black Cat Café, Doughnotts, The Jam Lady, Ruddington Village Butchers, Sweetie Boutique, Cocoabake, Turners Bakery, The Peckish Artisan Kitchen, Split Screen Coffee and more. A craft section will further complement the event offering pictures from a Ruddington artist, jewellery, scented candles, hardwood goods, hand-made hats made in the village and hand-made cards and gifts. There’ll even be a performance by Ruddington Community Choir. You can find all the market details >>HERE<<.

Our new Ruddington Village Market launches this Saturday (February 2nd) and runs from 9am to 1pm at The White Horse Inn on Church Street. Organisers are encouraging local visitors to stretch their legs and walk or cycle to the market, and for people from outside our village to make use of public transport – such as Nottingham City Transport‘s Navy 3 or Green 10 buses, both of which stop right outside. Whilst there will be some parking, it is expected to be especially busy on market days.

Given sufficient support, it’s hoped to then continue running this new market on the first Saturday morning of every month. So please make sure you go along to see all that’s on offer!

Eco-minded RVCP has even produced special, reusable cotton bags for its new market
