‘Petrol Powered’ Cyclist Injured in High Street Collision

Investigations are underway following an accident in Ruddington village centre involving a car and a cyclist riding an unusual, petrol-powered bicycle.

The collision happened at around 10.15pm last night (Wednesday 27th November), at the junction of High Street and Kirk Lane, just outside The Frame Breakers pub. One eyewitness reported the bicycle was being powered by a small, internal combustion engine – and was “unlike anything I’d ever seen before!” A strong smell of petrol was reported, following the collision, as the bicycle was cleared from the road.

Passers-by rushed to help the injured cyclist, thought to be in his early twenties, until officers and a first responder arrived at the scene. Four police vehicles and an ambulance attended – before the man was taken to the QMC with what was described as a serious, but not life-threatening, leg injury. The car driver was unhurt in the accident and remained at the scene to help officers with their enquiries.

If you have any information about this incident, or you witnessed it yourself, you’re asked to  call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 – quoting incident 927 of 27th November 2019.
