Gino’s Cooking Oil Crook Convicted

A man arrested on suspicion of stealing cooking oil from Gino’s Italian Restaurant in Ruddington just before Christmas has been convicted at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on two charges of theft.

Rushcliffe Police released a CCTV image (right) of the person they believed to be responsible after one of the incidents at the rear of the Church Street premises at 5.05am on Thursday 27th December 2017.

The man found guilty of the used oil thefts is 52 year-old Errol Kus from Grantham. Mr Kus was given a conditional discharge of six months for both offences. He was also required to pay costs of £85.00, plus total compensation of £60.00 and a victim surcharge of £20.00.

This successful conviction shows the importance of help from the public in finding criminals and bringing them to justice. CCTV footage captured by both businesses and individuals can be vital. Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, Craig Berry, reminds us: “If someone is threatening, or committing a crime, you SHOULD dial 999. But, if it’s a non-emergency, then please ring 101.”
