After slight delays in their manufacture Ruddington Parish Council (RPC), who commissioned and funded them, has announced that they are now ready and are due to be installed next week (w/c 17th July).
However the new signs won’t replace the existing ones, which are owned by Nottinghamshire County Council. Instead RPC says they will “play a different role by celebrating our culture and heritage”.
Created by Ruddington-based graphic design agency WigWag and produced by specialist firm Signs of the Times in Leighton Buzzard, the new structures will brand Ruddington as “The Museums Village”. After the original artwork was created (as pictured) it was decided to add an “s” to “museum”. This, in itself, might raise some eyebrows among English language purists since, strictly, the plural of “museum” should be “musea”! Ruddington pub quizmaster Howard Greville-Giddings joked: “Fetch the pitchforks! This is how the civil war starts.”
The bold, watercolour design features the Framework Knitters’ Museum and Village Museum buildings, along with a GCRN steam train. The five signs will be installed at the entrances to the village at Wilford Road, Clifton Road, Flawforth Lane and both ends of Loughborough Road.
