Another of Ruddington’s pubs has received wider recognition – this time from Nottingham’s Branch of The Campaign for Real Ale. The Frame Breakers, at the corner of High Street and Kirk Lane, is one of the two runners-up announced today in its “Village Pub of the Year 2017” awards.
Nominated pubs in the Nottingham area were judged on a number of criteria, which included beer quality, warmth of welcome and general mix of clientele, amongst other considerations. The Frame Breakers achieved a place in the village category top three for the first time, alongside one of last year’s runners-up The Gate Inn in Awsworth. Last year’s winner, The Round Robinn micropub in East Leake, has managed to retain its title. Meanwhile the winner of the 2017 “City Pub of the Year” title is The Poppy & Pint in West Bridgford.
Historically called “The Bricklayers Arms” the pub was refurbished, renamed and relaunched by new owners The Nottingham Brewery in November 2015 as “The Frame Breakers” – in tribute to Ruddington’s framework knitting and Luddite heritage. It was also given a proper Beer Garden. Since then it has become something of a magnet for real ale drinkers from the village and beyond – also reintroducing food and staging regular “live” music, pub quizzes and other events. It’s currently taking part in the “Stout & Porter Stroll”.
It has been several years since any Ruddington pub appeared in the national CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Villagers can hope that this recognition augers well for the 2018 edition!
Nottingham CAMRA Branch Chairman Steve Westby said “At a time when pubs continue to close at a frightening rate it is pleasing that our volunteer panel of judges found that the quality of our remaining local pubs was, if anything, better than ever.”
