Ruddington Remembrance Sunday
‘We Will Remember Them‘ on Sunday 12th November in the village. The event, weather permitting, starts with The Royal British Legion Parade where local organisations will march to the War Memorial on Church Street and followed by a Service of Remembrance.
Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) explains: “Representatives from our twin town of Grenay, France, will also be attending. The French flag will be flying outside St Peter’s Rooms and the Union Jack at the War Memorial, in remembrance of the fallen from both countries. The service will include prayers, hymns and the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.”
Please note: Residents are encouraged to walk to this event if possible with roads into the village closed for the Parade.
10.45am The Royal British Legion Parade
11am The Last Post will be played, followed by the 2-minutes’ silence.
Then, everyone’s invited to Sunday’s Morning ‘Remembrance’ Service inside St. Peter’s Church.
The War Memorial is next to St. Peter’s Churchyard on Church Street and the Parish Council maintains it. “Ruddington’s War Memorial commemorates village residents who were killed in the First and Second World Wars, and the Korean War.” You can find out more about the memorial on RPC’s site >>HERE<<.
The Royal British Legion says this year is to “mark the significant anniversaries united by the theme of ‘Service’ “ and you can read about Remembrance in 2023. The charity provides ‘financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces – past and present and their families.’
Ruddington & District branch of The RBL usually meet on the first Thursday of every month at 8pm in St Peters Rooms on Church Street in Ruddington – please visit its webpage <<HERE<<.
Once again this year Ruddington’s famous ‘Yarn Ninjas’ have been at work. You can read more, and see further photographs, >>HERE<<.
