Have Your Say in Europe – and Ruddington!

Ruddingtonians are heading to the polls again this Thursday (23rd May 2019) for the second set of elections in just three weeks.

This time around, of course, it’s to elect our representatives for the European Parliament – a vote that has had to be organised rather hastily within the last couple of months, after the UK failed to leave the European Union as planned.

For the East Midlands region we have the chance to vote for one of eight different political parties – each fielding five candidates – or for one independent. You can find the full list >>HERE<<. As usual, our two Polling Stations will be at St Peter’s Rooms and Ruddington Village Hall and open from 7am to 10pm. The one you’ll need to use depends upon where you live – and is printed with a location map on your Poll Card.

UPDATE 27th MAY – RESULTS
During an election in which the new Brexit Party took the majority of European Parliament seats, here in Rushcliffe it was the Liberal Democrats who were celebrating securing the largest number of votes overall. Nevertheless The Brexit Party came a very close second whilst the Green Party also performed strongly in third place – beating Conservative and Labour into fourth and fifth places respectively. The turnout was 44.95%.

In other Council news…
You may have noticed there was no election held for Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) representatives during the recent Local Government Elections on May 2nd 2019 with only Rushcliffe Borough Council seats being advertised. This was due to there being less RPC candidates than vacancies. Consequently our Parish Council is now looking to recruit new Councillors by co-option to fill no less than EIGHT vacant seats across Camelot, EasthorpeFlawford and Manor Wards! RPC stresses you do not necessarily have to live in the Ward to be a Councillor for that Ward – AND you will now not have to go through any public election process.

If you are interested you’re asked to complete and return the Eligibility Form which is available to download from RPC’s website >>HERE<< or from the Parish Office during normal opening hours. You’ll need to return it by Saturday 8th June 2019 to be considered for these vacancies. Applicants will be invited to take part in an interview as part of the process. There are two interview dates – 25th June and 23rd July 2019 – and details of the interview process are available >>HERE<<.

If you require any further information, you can email office@ruddingtonparishcouncil.gov.uk, telephone 0115 9146660, or visit the Parish Office at St Peter’s Rooms on Church Street in person during opening hours.
