As Ruddington’s brand new roundabout nears completion villagers have already come up with a NAME for it following a week-long Twitter poll on @RUDDINGTON.info
Out of the four options shortlisted for our unofficial, tongue-in-cheek, survey over half of those who voted decided it should be named “TAVERN ISLAND” in honour of The Victoria Tavern pub – which sits right next to the new look Wilford Road/Clifton Road junction.
The other options in the poll – with votes cast – were as follows:
No incorrect envelopes were opened nor wrong winners announced after the poll – which ended at 7pm today.
The original idea to “name” the roundabout in honour of the historic inn came from Vic Tavern regular and Ruddington entrepreneur Rob Mascari. He decided that some compensation was needed for popular landlady Lindsey Flint – given the major disruption being caused by the roadworks AND the permanent loss of ALL of her pub’s roadside parking spaces.
In fact, other suggestions included “Lindsey’s Loop” and “Lindsey’s Lost Layby” as well as “Beavering Around” (after the former adjacent ‘Beaver Garments’ factory) and, inevitably, “Roundy McRoundface”!
Lindsey herself did NOT favour “Lindsey’s Loop” saying “Everyone’d put a ‘Y’ at the end!”
So her own personal choice? “Tavern Island”.
Job done!
