Ruddington Cricket Club has announced a major new initiative to get children in our village to take up the sport. It’s just become one of the first fully accredited centres to offer ‘All Stars Cricket’.
It’s a key milestone in the club’s 167 year history. All Stars Cricket is a brand new idea from the England and Wales Cricket Board aimed at providing children aged five to eight with a great first experience in cricket. It’s designed to be a fun and active way to develop a child’s skills.
Ash Roberts from Ruddington CC told RUDDINGTON.info “Through our eight-week programme they will learn lots – as well as make new friends – in a safe and inclusive environment. All girls and boys are welcome, and each registered child will receive a pack of cricket goodies including a cricket bat, ball, backpack, water bottle, personalised shirt and cap to keep so that they can continue their love of cricket when they go home.”
The programme will be run over eight consecutive Thursday evenings, starting on the 25th of May 2017, with the emphasis on being fun and active as well as developing children’s movement skills. As well as being run by the club secretary and ‘activator’ Nick Greaves, the programme is also intended to engage with mums and dads – giving them valuable time with their kids.
Nick says “Everyone at Ruddington Cricket Club is delighted that we are one of the official All Stars Cricket centres. At Ruddington, we started our junior section just over two years ago and it has been a roaring success so far with our under 11s winning their league last summer! But All Stars Cricket allows us to give younger children the opportunity to learn to play cricket.
“There will be 8 sessions which will run every Thursday from 6.15pm until 7.15pm from the 25th of May. We will also be running other junior sessions on Friday nights up until 25th May – please contact me on 07918 552321 or log on to www.ruddington.play-cricket.com for more details.
“The All Stars Cricket programme intends to encourage parents to get involved and have fun with their kids. And we can’t wait to see Elms Park packed with kids and their parents or guardians playing cricket and having fun!”
