Asher Lane Housing Approved!

Ruddington has LOST its long running battle with housing developers who’ve applied to build a major new housing estate on Green Belt land off Asher Lane. Following an appeal hearing last month granted to Space Foods Limited by The Planning Inspectorate, Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s decision to refuse them outline permission for the site has been overturned. This means around 175 new homes can now be built on this land – bordered by Asher Lane, Musters Road, Western Fields and the footpath alongside the Great Central Railway line (see top photo). Hundreds…

Revised Asher Lane Housing Plans

Last December we reported how Space Foods Ltd had decided to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal to allow it outline planning permission for 175 new homes on Green Belt land it owns south of Musters Road – with access off Asher Lane. Those proposals were lodged in January 2017 – after a previous application for 250 houses on the same site was withdrawn two years earlier. The Borough Council refused this second application on THREE main grounds: 1) Noise. The developers didn’t indicate how they would deal with the noise…

Asher Lane Housing Appeal

Back in April we reported that Rushcliffe Borough Council had rejected plans to build 175 new homes on our Green Belt north of Asher Lane. The proposals (above) were lodged by land owners Space Foods Ltd in January after a previous application for 250 houses on the same site was withdrawn two years earlier. Now Space Foods is appealing to the Planning Inspectorate against Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal in an attempt to get this decision reversed. This site was, in fact, originally included in its Local Plan Part 2 as an area called RUD7 – where the Green Belt might be…

Asher Lane Housing Plans Refused

Ruddington residents can breathe a sigh of relief – for now – after Rushcliffe Borough Council rejected plans to build 175 new homes on our Green Belt north of Asher Lane. The proposals were lodged by land owners Space Foods Ltd back in January after a previous application for 250 houses on the same site was withdrawn just over two years earlier. In the subsequent public consultation about the development (see map below) 655 people objected to the plans with only 2 supporting them. ALL the documents relating to this application can be found >>HERE<< and you can read the background >>HERE<<.…

Parish Council will Object to Asher Lane Housing Plan

Ruddington residents are being reminded there’s now just a week left to comment on a revised outline planning application to build a major new housing development off Asher Lane. The scheme for 175 new dwellings on greenbelt land between Ruddington and the Country Park has again been lodged by land owners Space Foods Ltd following their withdrawal last year of a similar application – but for up to 250 houses. ALL the official documents relating to this application can be found >>HERE<<. You can read the background to this story and details of arguments for and against it >>HERE<<. Villagers…

Further Theft from Housing Development

The latest Ruddington crime figures, just released by Rushcliffe Police, reveal that thieves have struck again at a Ruddington building site – for a THIRD time! In the early hours of 10th September 2021, criminals got away with a three tonne digger from the Linden Homes ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development. Previously, thousands of pounds worth of scaffolding was stolen from the Flawforth Lane construction site in July, and various building items went missing in a raid the month before. So far this year, brazen thieves have also managed to steal a…

Asher Lane To Be Shut for a Week!

In another frustrating turn of events for villagers and visitors, it’s been announced that a key access road at the southern end of Ruddington will need to be totally closed for a week this summer. As the construction of 175 new homes at the ‘Wilbur Chase’ housing development gathers pace, “carriageway improvement work” on behalf of Avant Homes will shut Asher Lane from its junction with Distillery Street to its junction with Musters Road from 7.30am on Monday 14th June through to 4.30pm on Friday 18th June. It’s believed this closure is for the widening…

Asher Lane Parking Plea

Safety concerns have been raised by local residents after a significant recent increase in visitors attempting to use Asher Lane to park for Rushcliffe Country Park. It seems the issue has been especially bad on Saturdays and Sundays – with drivers favouring access through our narrow village streets to try to park alongside the north eastern perimeter of the popular Ruddington green space rather than in the official car park off Mere Way. Sue Powdrill, who took these photographs for us, tells RUDDINGTON.info: “There is a constant queue of cars trying to…

Work Begins for New Housing Opposite Mere Way

The building of the second of Ruddington’s major new housing estates on former Green Belt land moves a step closer this week as around six months’ work begins to create the access. This current agricultural land, off the A60 Loughborough Road, is one of four village green field development areas rubber-stamped by Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Local Plan Part 2 (originally known as RUD13 and then as Policy 6.3) for which William Davis Homes then received approval to build 180 new houses around a year ago. Since then, construction work has already begun for the…

Asher Lane Construction Commences

Residents along the southern side of Musters Road and Western Fields have something new to watch from their back bedroom windows – the disappearance of the open views they have enjoyed ever since their homes were built. Thanks to the Coronavirus, these householders have actually had rather longer to continue enjoying their green fields and wildlife than the property developer intended – since its imminent groundworks and construction were abruptly halted by the ‘lockdown’ in March. However, to some residents’ chagrin, this was not before a sizeable section of mature hedgerow…
