In another strange but welcome turn of events, the planned work by Severn Trent Water around Kempson Street, which was due to start today (Tuesday 30th November), has been called off! Ruddington traders and motorists had been dreading more disruption and delays coming, as it was, straight after Cadent had only just completed its over-running gas main repair work. No sooner has Cadent Gas finally completed its over-running repair work – which closed Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill for almost two weeks – village centre traders and motorists in Ruddington are immediately facing more potential disruption and delays this week. Businesses in Ruddington are weighing up the likely implications of new measures announced this weekend by the Prime Minister to try to stop a worrying COVID-19 variant spreading in Britain. A Ruddington charity which was set up four years’ ago to give a better quality of life to dementia sufferers and their families has been the first to officially receive its cash from the 2020-2021 round of the Co-op Local Community Fund. Those attending the official re-opening of Ruddington’s famous Framework Knitters’ Museum this week got to see it in a different light…. the dark! Motorists, bus users and business owners in Ruddington have expressed dismay on learning that the recent traffic disruption in our village centre will continue for even longer – with emergency gas main work on Wilford Road STILL unfinished. Drivers trying to get through Ruddington village centre today faced unexpected delays and diversions – after emergency gas work shut Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill at around 3pm*. As queues formed around the closure, Nottingham City Transport was forced to divert its Navy 3 service away from Ruddington village centre – leaving passengers stranded at bus stops.
