Car Crashes Into Manor Park Gates After Police Chase

A Police pursuit through Ruddington this afternoon ended up with the car the officers were following colliding with the gateway at the Churchill Drive end of Manor Park. It would seem the driver was unaware he would come across a closed gate – which brought the vehicle to an abrupt halt.  Eye witnesses saw one person from the crashed car being detained at the scene but another running off. The front bumper of one police car was ripped off during the incident. Police helicopters could then be seen and heard in the…

Flawforth Lane Green Belt Housing Plans

Linden Homes is the latest property developer to submit a full planning application to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) to build a major new housing estate in Ruddington – even though the site in question has yet to be removed from our Green Belt. The plans have been prepared by Landmark Planning and propose 56 dwellings on ‘Land South of Flawforth Lane’ – the site formerly used by landscape contracting business Ecoplants. The five existing buildings there would be demolished. This land is one of the Green Belt development areas earmarked in Rushcliffe…

Hey, Little Slow-Worm!

Ruddington is quite fortunate to have a number of places where slightly more unusual wildlife can be found – with volunteers such as those from The South Notts Local Group of the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust helping it to survive and thrive. Since 2008 there has been a smattering of grass snake records from around our village at Rushcliffe Country Park, Wilwell Farm Cutting Nature Reserve and Ruddington Grange Golf Course.  Grass snakes are Britain’s largest (and non venomous) reptile – not to be confused with the adder, which reportedly (and…

Flawforth Lane Closed After Diesel Spill

Motorists are unable to use Flawforth Lane in and out of Ruddington today following an incident just after midnight at the A52/A606 Wheatcroft Roundabout. Highways England said it was “due to an extensive diesel spillage. The A52 will need partly resurfacing.” The A52 was closed westbound between the A606 and the A60 for several hours overnight, but the agency reported it was partly reopened just before the morning rush hour today: “Lane 2 of two lanes is now flowing past the spillage and therefore the A52 is partly open.” However…

New Police Warning About Thefts from Vehicles

Although May was another relatively quiet month for crime in Ruddington, many of the incidents investigated by officers were again thefts from motor vehicles parked in residential areas of our village. These accounted for nearly half the offences reported. Police are reminding people not to leave valuables in unattended cars and vans, particularly overnight. Inspector Craig Berry of Rushcliffe Police is also warning residents that shed and garage burglaries have started to increase across the area: “As the weather improves, and the nights become lighter, cycles, power tools and garden machinery have…

174 Homes Proposed for Flood Prone Green Belt

A full planning application to build 174 new homes on agricultural land west of Wilford Road in Ruddington has now been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC). The proposals will come as no surprise to most local residents, since the area (formerly known as RUD01 and now referred to as Policy 6.1) has long been targeted by Bloor Homes – with discussions taking place between the property developer, Oxalis Planning and Ruddington Parish Council (RPC) as far back as December 2014. Originally RPC proposed to sell off Sellors’ Playing Field to accommodate…
