Ruddington Remembers 100 Years On

This morning, at Ruddington’s War Memorial, hundreds of villagers gathered in the sunshine on the date and time exactly a century ago that the signing of the Armistice marked the official end of the First World War. This Centenary was an especially poignant time to remember the sixty one servicemen from our own village, who fought for their country between 1914 and 1918, but who never returned home to their families. Charging Ahead in Ruddington?

You may be surprised to hear that there are now over 182,000 plug-in electric vehicles registered in the UK – and they’re becoming an increasingly common sight here in Ruddington, too, with dozens of drivers in our village having already made the switch from petrol or diesel. These national statistics are for cars and vans that are zero-emission capable by running only on electric power for a reasonable range – that’s to say pure-electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). Ruddington Farmers’ Market Seeks Stallholders

Another new initiative to attract shoppers into our village centre – aimed at both residents and visitors – will be trialled early in the New Year. Now organisers are looking for local traders interested in having a stall. The idea of a Ruddington Farmers’ Market has been doing the rounds since just after Easter – when Ruddington Parish Council called an Extraordinary Meeting. ‘Residents Only’ Parking Plans Cause Controversy

A landmark consultation on proposals to make the majority of two Ruddington village centre streets ‘Residents Only’ parking during Monday to Saturday daytimes ends this Wednesday (November 6th). The Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) plans (which we reported upon last month) have certainly caused some controversy! If implemented they would make most of Charles Street and Parkyns Street unavailable for shoppers and other visitors from 8am to 6pm any day except Sunday, as shown on the map below. Figures published today by Rushcliffe Police show that the number of crimes reported in Ruddington increased again last month – after a relatively quiet summer. Join Ruddington’s 2018 Poppy Challenge!

Sunday November 11th 2018 commemorates 100 years since the end of World War One. To commemorate this, Ruddington Royal British Legion is running “The Poppy Challenge.” Branch Secretary Louise Mote explains: “We’re inviting everyone to join in the fun, whilst raising much-needed funds for the annual Poppy Appeal. The Poppy Challenge invites you to submit as many entries as you like in any of the three categories: painting, drawing and baking.
